In 2021 the Village of Palm Springs commissioned Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to complete a Septic to Sewer Conversion Study. Septic sewer systems use gravity to convey wastewater from your home to a holding tank and then to a drain field, where minimally treated wastewater flows through perforated pipes and seeps into the underlying soil. Septic systems can contribute to groundwater and/or surface water contamination. The goal of the analysis was to determine the extent of the septic tank usage, determine options for incorporation into the Village’s current wastewater transmission system, identify a priority for the affected areas, and estimate costs for construction.
The study was completed and presented during the August 18, 2022, Village Council meeting. The study identified two potential sewer systems for a septic conversion. The first potential solution, gravity sewer system, uses gravity to convey wastewater from your home to a neighborhood wastewater pump station, or lift station. The second protentional solution, low pressure sewer system, uses a small pump station at your house to convey wastewater from your home to the local wastewater treatment facility. The pros/cons and estimated costs of these two options are available within the study.
