[ARCHIVED] New Window Sign Regulations In Effect

New sign code allowances:
Nonilluminated window signs are permitted up to 25% coverage on an
aggregate basis of all glass panes or building openings

A static electronic “open” sign is permitted (subject to code compliant electrical connection)

Window signs and treatments/coverings do not require a permit

Entrance doors must be maintained with clear glass and glazing treatment and
clear/unobstructed views of the cashier’s station

Window coverings, including solid films, tints or sunscreening material, may be clear and textured or frosted, or 65%-100% grayscale, or the primary color of the surrounding wall

Window tint on 1st floor windows must allow public safety personnel views into the business

Any graphic or text on window coverings, including films, tints or sunscreening material, shall be included in the window sign allowance

In an effort to be business-friendly, owners with noncompliant window signs/coverings may submit a request to be included in a (one-time only) Village-initiated variance process.  If approved, said variances shall apply to existing window signs/coverings only, which may only be replaced with conforming signs/coverings in the future.   Requests to be considered for a variance must be submitted to the Village Planning, Zoning & Building Department before September 13, 2018.   An application form and checklist of required submittal materials can be found on the Village website at www.vpsfl.org   on the Planning, Zoning & Building page under the Window Signs tab.
