Code Enforcement Officer Mark Rodriguez and eleven (11) local businesses and suppliers were recognized at the Village Council Meeting on Thursday, September 28th for donating their time, personnel and supplies to assist Mr. Roberto Pizarro, a Palm Springs resident and disabled Korean War Veteran. Two years ago, Officer Rodriguez issued a Courtesy Code Violation notice to Mr. Pizarro for a damaged roof, not knowing that the owner was bed-ridden with medical issues.

The family later reached out to Officer Rodriguez about the notice. Once he was made aware of the owner’s condition, as well as finding out that he was a Korean War Veteran, he decided to contact major roofing companies and local businesses to see if they would assist the owner by donating their services. As a result, Officer Rodriguez was able to secure materials and services from local businesses to provide Mr. Pizarro with a new metal roof, new gutters, new drywall in the rooms where the roof leaked, mold remediation was performed, and finally the whole house was repainted. In addition, Village staff members all chipped in to cover the cost of the roofing permit.

Officer Rodriguez was given a Proclamation at the Meeting from Mayor Bev Smith and Village Council for his efforts and compassion in helping Mr. Pizarro have a safe place to live for years to come. The following local businesses and vendors donated materials and services:
  • Allied Building Supply – Roll Roofing & Tar
  • Augustus Roofing, Inc. – Installed metal roof
  • Bossler Roofing, Inc -  Coordinated the roof project and installed flat roof
  • Certain Teed – Roofing supplies
  • WPTV Channel 5 News – Provided news coverage on the story
  • Grabber Construction Products – Roof materials
  • Guttersmith – Donated and installed gutters
  • Fritz Massie Fence – Fencing
  • Ocean City Metal Roofing Supply - Donated all metal rood panels
  • R.C. Cole Construction – Replaced all drywall that was molded
  • Samuel Horwitz – Advocated for Veterans Benefits
  • Restoration One – Mold removal
  • Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County – Painted the entire house at the completion of the other projects
  • Tri-Built Materials Group –Roofing Supplies
We thank everyone that was involved in making this project happen for the benefit of one of our local heroes in need.
