[ARCHIVED] Planktonic Algae Bloom at Frost Lake Park
We are currently experiencing a Planktonic Algae Bloom at Frost Lake Park on Lillian Road. Please do not be alarmed, this is not harmful. A Planktonic Algae Bloom is the rapid increase of algae in freshwater which grows in response to excessive nutrients. (phosphorus and nitrogen) and is recognized by the discoloration in the water turning it green, yellowish-brown, or red.
The water at Frost Lake Park has a bright green hue right now, and this discoloration will gradually subside in the coming weeks. It has been recommended by Superior Water Systems to let this bloom run its course rather than using chemicals to treat the water which might be harmful to the many species of fish and animals who call Frost Lake Park home. Please notify the Palm Springs Maintenance Department at (561) 965-4022 with any additional concerns about this algae bloom.
